หลังจากภาคที่แล้ว ดร.บราวน์ (Christopher Lloyd) และยานเจาะเวลาได้ถูกฟ้าแล้วก็หายสาปสูญไป มาร์ตี้ (Michael J. Fox) ก็กำลังยืนงงอยู่ จนในที่สุดก็พบความจริงว่า ดร.ระเห็จไปสู่ปี 1885 อันตรงกับยุคคาวบอยเฟื่อง ซึ่งก็ไม่น่าจะมีปัญหาอะไร หากแต่มาร์ตี้ดันพบว่า ดร.จะต้องถูกฆ่าตาย มาร์ตี้เลยต้องเจาะเวลาไปอดีตอีกครั้งเพื่อช่วยด็อกกลับมา แต่งานนี้ยุ่งแน่ เพราะยานเจาะเวลาดันไม่เหลือน้ำมันเลยตอนไปถึงปี 1885 … แล้วยุคนั้นมีน้ำมันที่ไหนกันล่ะ พวกเขาจะกลับมาได้ไหม แล้วพวกเขายังต้องเจอกับอะไรอีก ต้องตามในตอนอวสานของหนังชุดนี้
