ซโลมอน เคน (เจอมส์ เพียวฟอย) คือมือสังหารระดับพระกาฬ แห่งศตวรรษที่ 16 ด้วยอาวุธครบมือ พร้อมด้วยหมู่โจรตะลุยปล้นสะดมไปบนเส้นทางที่ชุ่มโชกด้วยเลือด แต่เมื่อเขาบุกเข้าไปในปราสาทลึกลับเพื่อยึดครองทรัพย์สมบัติมหาศาลที่ร่ำลือกันมานานชะตาชีวิตก็พลิกผันทันที ลูกสมุนของเคนถูกสิ่งมีชีวิตเหนือธรรมชาติเด็ดหัวไปทีละคนสองคน กระทั่งเหลือแต่เขาเท่านั้นที่ต้องเผชิญหน้ากับมัจจุราช ซึ่งถูกส่งมาจากขุมนรกเพื่อกระชากวิญญาณอันมืดบอด แต่สุดท้าย เคนหนีรอดจากคมเคียวมาได้พร้อมกับตระหนักได้ว่าถึงเวลาแล้วที่จะต้องไถ่บาปหลังจากนั้นจึงละทิ้งความโหดร้ายอุทิศทั้งชีวิตให้กับสันติและความดีงาม ทว่าไม่นานจิตวิญญาณใหม่ของเคนก็ถูกทดสอบ เขาไม่สามารถช่วยผู้คนในครอบครัวครอว์ธอร์ให้รอดพ้นจากการถูกสังหารอย่างโหดเหี้ยม เขาสาบานว่าจะต้องตามหาและปลดปล่อยลูกสาวของพวกเขาที่ถูกจับตัวไปให้เป็นอิสระให้ได้ ไม่ว่านั่นจะหมายถึงการนำพาจิตวิญญาณกลับไปสู่อันตราย หรือต้องคลุกคลีกับพรสวรรค์ทางด้านการฆ่าอีกครั้งก็ตาม
